Creative Brief For Busy People

Whether you’re aiming to build awareness for your brand online or showcase your products in action, getting started with video marketing can be as thrilling as it is overwhelming. With so many brands vying for the same attention from consumers, it’s important to hook your audience and keep them engaged throughout the video. A well thought-out-video will always be more engaging than one that is not.

In this article, I’m only going to cover the first step: Creating a Creative Brief.

1. Define the Key Message: Before you even think about hitting the record button, take a moment to ponder the core message you want to convey. It could be:

  • Spreading awareness so people know you exist and what you’re about.

  • Sharing knowledge to establish your expertise in a particular field or discipline.

  • Sharing customer success stories to showcase how you go above and beyond.

  • Or simply to bringing joy and entertainment to your audience.

A clear message will serve as your guiding light throughout the video creation process.

2. Identify The Problem: Every great video addresses a problem. What is the pain point your customers face and how do you help them? Have the problem clear in your mind and let it guide your content.

3. Goals/Objectives: What do you hope to achieve with your video? Set clear, achievable goals that align with your overall vision. Whether it's reaching a certain number of views, sparking a conversation, or driving traffic to your website, having well-defined objectives will keep you on track. Make sure to revisit these often.

4. Target Audience: Who are you creating this video for? Understanding your audience's demographics, interests, and preferences is crucial for tailoring your content to resonate with them. This means catering your message to speak to your specific audience in mind. Take the time to get to know your audience if you haven’t already.

5. Strategy: With your message, problem, goals, and audience in mind, devise a strategic plan for your video. Consider the tone, style, and format that will best convey your message and engage your audience.

6. Timeline: Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a stellar video. Set a realistic timeline for your project, taking into account pre-production, filming, editing, and post-production. When do you need this video by? Work backwards and plan ample time for each stage. Be sure to factor in time for revisions and unforeseen delays—because let's face it, they're bound to happen.
